Expectations Met

I had heard that Bryan Adams (and his band, and crew), puts on a good show. But my expectations weren't too high, because even though recent video clips of him sound good, is his voice still in tact? I mean, 35+ years of doing shows, surely that will wear on your voice, right? Well, he's still got it. It's almost unnatural to see because he looks older, but his voice is still incredible. I was a little worried because video clips I'd seen of past concerts showed the original music videos in the background, which I thought would be distracting. But this concert didn't do that-- it had video in the background throughout, but it was cars, nature scenes, computer generated shapes... for the most part I thought it was tasteful. The songs in which I thought the video was distracting was: Summer of '69 (was that a nipple? I know Bryan's seen a lot of those, but maybe scratch that) and 18 'Till I Die (at the end of the song, seeing the crowd staring at the word "DIE" in huge red letters for about 20-30 seconds was quite the sight. hopefully no subliminal messaging there...). The only other criticism was the band cut the 2nd verse of my favorite song ("The Only Good Thing That Looks Good On Me Is You"), but the band is professional and have probably adjusted based on crowd reaction over the years. What's great? The band sounds TIGHT. Shout-out to the drummer, bassist, and keyboard player, as they don't get the same adoration from the crowd as Bryan and guitarist Keith. Near the end Bryan played a few songs with just him on acoustic guitar. Just great. Also, Credit Union Place in Summerisde, PEI is a great spot to have a show, it's a 4500-person venue, my wife and I were in the middle, and we could SEE THEIR FACES. If you live in the Maritimes, or are visiting PEI from afar, it's worth seeing a big-name artist at Credit Union Place if they happen to be there. The last thing I'll mention is: The crowd was happy. The pandemic is basically over, and people were just happy to get out and be at a concert. Lots of dancing and singing along. In summary, Bryan Adams and his band and crew are professional and put on a great show. Recommended.
